1st Team
2nd Team
Training
Every Tuesday evening from July through to April. Meet at Helsby Sports & Social Club for 6.30pm or at the Helsby Rugby Pitches for a 7.00pm start.

Yeah right! Members are encouraged to drink during the week but this is by no means compulsory. Go training by all means, but if you do learn something new don't expect anyone else to understand what you're talking about on Saturday...
Commitment The team currently play in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Four, which consists largely of local clubs. The team will play approximately 30 matches in the season, of which 20 or so will be League or Cup games. The average 1st team player currently plays 20+ games per season. The 2nd team looks to fulfill two roles : Firstly to give those who want 1st Team rugby a chance to prove themselves. Secondly, to give an opportunity to those who just want an occasional run-out and a few pints afterwards. In other words, it's completely up to you how often you play - whether you want a regular game each week or just a handful of games each season.

Please note that both the 1st XV and 2nd XV generally play clubs within 1/2 hour to an hour's drive away.

Previous experience The current 1st XV contains players from a wide variety of backgrounds. Ex-club Captain John Williams for example has played Rugby League for St Helens and this season represented the Great Britain Amateur RL team. Winger Alex Rutter, however, joined the club as a 17-year old never having played the game before, yet quickly proved himself worthy of a regular first team place. The 2nd XV consists of a healthy mix of "old heads" and "new blood". On the one hand, club stalwart Tony Ryder still turns out regularly despite being the wrong(?) side of 50. On the other hand, each season usually sees the introduction of new players who are completely new to the game. Whatever your background, you'll be sure of a warm welcome!

So that's it! Off the pitch there's no distinction between the 1st and 2nd teams and if it's a social club that you're looking for you'll not be disappointed. If you want to find out more, please e-mail info@helsbyrugby.com, telephone 07804 656558 or come along to the club on a Tuesday night or a Saturday afternoon.
